I joined up for a role playing game well in advance and there was an open slot. I drove 30 minutes to the location with time to spare only to be told by the GM that they were waiting for a regular player and if he showed up I would be bumped. He did - and considerably late like half an hour. So I get bumped and make the 30 minute drive back home. Later on the GM posted that the event was currently full until further notice but it stayed on there for months instead of being removed.\n\nNot too long after that I went to another rpg same deal - 30 minute drive and get bumped after the regular player shows up late. My opinion is if there is an open spot claimed on Meetup and the regular player shows up later than ten minutes then he concedes it to the stand in. It’s all about commitment - the stand in committed to driving all that way and being there on time why should he get bumped just because the other guy is a regular? If that is the rule then what’s to keep a regular player from constantly walking in late because he likes to stop off for soda and donuts along the way?\n\nThere should be Meetup events open for sigh up players and events that aren’t on Meetup because they are already full with regular players. If you are going to be on Meetup hare regular players sign up or be listed. Even when I want to , it's not easy to find what will work. Meetup has given me a chance to connect with people based on mutual interests without feeling forced to socialize more than I want to. I started out with a movie meetup, something I often do alone.i had the option of socializing after too. Next I tried a local place where we could play video games and have snacks or drinks . I then found a group that meets up at a coffee shop to get paperwork done! I had been dreaming of finding something this, I even tried to place an ad for a buddy prior to meetup . I haven't tried started a meetup but it's also a possibility here. I found fellow sci fi lovers too, who knew ?! \nThere are lots of groups for outdoor exercise like hiking and biking and during this time of distancing it may prove to be healthy endeavor. The fact that I can pick and choose is ideal.\nIf you haven't tried meetup I say go for it! I am normally leery of people too and meetup provides a nice balance of meeting ,safety, interests and exploration.\nThe groups are generally closed I found that to join I can say a bit about my interests and check out other profiles. I love that I have been about to hang with a 70 yr old and a 20 year old finding common ground. I can leave if I want or stay for the duration. I can talk sci fi or knit ,color or draw , exercise or chill.
